Firefighters Attend Fishing Derby

Lindo Lake:

On Saturday June 1, 2013 crews from Lakeside Station 2 took part in the 10th annual Lakeside Optimist Fishing Derby.  The fishing derby, which has become one of the official kick off's to summer in Lakeside, is a great way to spend a free morning of fishing with your family and friends.  Prior to the event Lindo Lake was stocked with 1500 pounds of catfish.

A sunny day and a trailer full of fishing poles
Children under the age of 15 were invited to pick up free fishing poles and try their luck.  Awards were given out for both the biggest and the smallest fish that were pulled out of the lake today.

Engine 2 was a great attraction for the kids
The fire department was on scene to give tours of the fire engine and talk about fire safety with the kids.  In addition to the fire service and the fishing there were several other free activities for families including face painting, games, a petting zoo.  The optimists were even offering a free BBQ hot dog lunch for all of those that attended.  If you missed it this year make sure you try to make it next year!
