Lakeside Vehicle Rollover Results in Fatality

Lakeside, CA -

Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle vs.structure in the 12400 block of Rockcrest Rd.on the evening of Sunday, March 23, 2014. Heartland Communications dispatched a full first-alarm structure assignment consisting of three engines, a truck, a rescue, a medic unit, and a duty chief. Lakeside Engine 1 (Riverview fire station) arrived in just under three minutes reporting a single vehicle rollover into the front yard of a residence with the vehicle resting on the driver's side. Despite the initial reports, the vehicle had not contacted the structure. The Engine 1 crew established initial stabilization of the vehicle and quickly determined the driver had suffered fatal injuries.

Firefighters from Engine 1 and Rescue 3 remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes to assist the county medical examiner personnel with the extrication of the driver. The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

FATAL HEAD-ON VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON LAKE JENNINGS

Lake Jennings Area-

Late Saturday night on June 22, 2013, firefighters from the Lakeside Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle accident that had a patient trapped and another vehicle on fire. Engine 2, from the River Park fire station, was the first unit on scene and found a four-door sedan and a four-door Jeep had collided head-on just west of the El Monte Road and Lake Jennings Park Road intersection with both vehicles having major damage. The vehicle fire had been extinguished with multiple fire extinguishers by Sheriff deputies before fire units arrived.


Two patients were trapped in their vehicles and one had self-extricated.  One victim was pronounced deceased at scene and two others were transported to area hospitals after a short extrication.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Units on scene from Lakeside Fire were Engine 2, Engine 1, Rescue 3, and Division 4106.  Agencies that assisted were Santee Medic 4 and El Cajon Medic 6.

Lakeside Fire Assists Alpine on Vehicle Rescue

Alpine-

On Thursday, August 16th, 2012 at 11:19 AM, the Lakeside Fire District sent Engine 26 to assist Alpine Fire with a reported vehicle accident in the area of Interstate 8 at the East Victoria under-crossing. The initial response included units from Alpine, Viejas, Lakeside, and the San Diego County Fire Authority.

CHP starts their investigation after rescue efforts had been completed.
On the arrival of the Alpine duty chief (Rushing) they discovered a pick-up truck that had left the freeway at a high rate of speed, impacting a large tree in the easement area. Due to the amount of damage the occupants could not be accessed for assessment of their injuries. A request was made to upgrade the call to include a response from Rescue 3 (Lake Jennings Fire Station).

With the arrival of Lakeside and Viejas firefighters efforts started to extricate the victims. It then became apparent that the occupants had both succumbed to their injuries. With the arrival of Rescue 3 efforts continued to remove the occupants.

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident. A total of 6 Lakeside personnel responded to this incident. Agencies on-scene included Alpine, Viejas, Lakeside, and San Diego County Fire Authority.

Lakeside Fire Crews Respond to Fatality Accident on Interstate 8

Dunbar Area: On May 6, 2011, at 12:03 a.m., the Lakeside Fire District received calls about a vehicle that had left the freeway on Interstate 8 just east of the Dunbar Rd under crossing. A full rescue response was dispatched that included two structural engines, one rescue company, an ALS medic unit, and a battalion chief.

On the arrival of Engine 17 (Alpine Fire), they discovered a vehicle that had left the freeway and was about 85 feet over the side. On the arrival of Battalion 1 (Laff), incident command was established and crews received their assignments.

As firefighters accessed the scene, it was discovered that the single occupant had suffered fatal injuries during the incident and extrication would be required in the recovery process.

Crews stood-by until the CHP and the San Diego Medical Examiner could complete their investigations. Firefighters then performed extrication operations to recover the body. The crew of Rescue 3 was able to recover the body, and was subsequently turned over to the crew from the Medical Examiners Department.

The response to this incident included 9 personnel from the Lakeside Fire District assisted by four members from the Alpine Fire District.

The accident is currently under investigation by the CHP.

Fatality on Wildcat Canyon Road

Wildcat Canyon: On Sunday, March 7th, 2010 at 12:24 PM, the Heartland Communications Center dispatched one engine company, a truck company, an ALS ambulance, and a Battalion Chief to a vehicle accident on Wildcat Canyon south of Muth Valley.

On arrival they found a full size pick-up truck had impacted a southbound van. One patient had been removed and an off-duty SDPD officer had initiated CPR efforts for a pulseless male occupant in the van. On the arrival of Engine Company 2 (Eucalyptus Hills Station) they took over patient care and initiated advanced life support efforts.

Extensive resuscitative efforts failed to revive the victim. On the arrival of Truck Company 27 (Barona Fire Department) they assisted by evaluating a second patient that had significant complaints. The patient was transported by Lakeside Medic 3 (Lake Jennings Station) to Sharp Trauma in Clairemont.

The Lakeside Fire District received assistance from the Barona Fire Department.

The accident is currently under investigation by the CHP.

Highway 67 Rollover Fatality

Multiple units from the Lakeside Fire District responded to a single vehicle rollover on rain-slickened Highway 67 in the northern area of Lakeside this afternoon. Crews from E1, E2, and M1 under the supervision of Battalion 1 (Lawler) attended to a single patient who suffered major trauma. Several passers-by including off-duty fire and police personnel performed CPR on the victim until Lakeside Fire units arrived. Unfortunately, the driver was unable to survive his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Assisting agencies included the California Highway Patrol.

Fatality on Los Coches Rd

Lakeside: On February 16th, at 8:58 AM, the Heartland Communications Center dispatched one company, and an ALS ambulance to the 9200 blk of Los Coches Rd for a reported vehicle vs. pedestrian.  Arriving crews discovered a female patient that had been struck by a vehicle and was in cardio-pulmonary arrest. Engine 1 and Medic 1 initiated treatment but efforts failed to revive the victim.

CHP is investigating the accident. Further information is available through the CHP (El Cajon Office)
