Can you think of a better day than Valentine's Day to "Love Your Heart?"
Firefighters from the Lakeside Fire District spent a good part of Valentine's Day at the Lakeside Community Center performing free blood pressure checks as part of the annual "Love Your Heart" community event. This annual countywide event is coordinated by the County of San Diego Live Well initiative and is aimed at educating the public about the risk factors for heart disease.
It is a fact that heart disease is the second-leading cause of death for county residents and the number one killer in our country as a whole. Knowing your risk factors is the first step in helping prevent or manage heart disease.
As paramedic service providers, your Lakeside Firefighters have daily experience with this public health epidemic. That is why we are committed to helping educate our citizens and help lessen the prevalence of heart disease in our community.
In addition to the firefighter-paramedics attending, the Lakeside Fire Logistics Volunteer Group were on hand to provide support with coffee, water, oranges, and a much-needed shade structure.
