Fireworks Cause Major Trauma in Glenview Area

Glenview: On New Years Day, 2011, at 12:07 a.m., the Lakeside Fire District received a call for a victim that had suffered injuries while setting off fireworks. A structural engine and an ALS ambulance were dispatched to the incident.

Arriving units treated a male patient that had suffered a "major traumatic injury" to the hand. The patient received initial trauma care by Engine 3 (Lake Jennings Station) but was quickly moved to Medic 6 (El Cajon Fire Department) for transport to UCSD Trauma/Burn Center for further treatment.

SDSO was contacted for follow-up on the device that caused the injury.

All fireworks are illegal in San Diego County, not only for the fire danger, but for their ability to cause devastating injuries such as this incident.
